De-LAB & RhOME for denCity

We are pleased to announce the partnership between De-LAB and the team of RhOME for denCity, a group of researchers coordinated by the Department of Architecture of Roma 3 University that will compete in the Solar Decathlon contest in Versailles, on June 27th.
Solar Decathlon is an international competition organized by the US Energy Department in which universities from all over the world gather to design and to build an energy efficient house, using solar energy and other technologies able to maximize the efficiency of the house.
The european version of such a competition, initially launched in Madrid in 2002, this year will be organized in France,Versailles, at Cité du Soleil. The latter is a solar village where participants from 3 continents, 16 countries and 20 diferent teams will challenge each other.
photoThe Italian team will present the project RhOME for denCity, trying to respond to the problems of big cities thanks to a replicable settlement with a strong attention to environmental performances and to the engagement of communities living in disadvantaged urban areas. The project, initially conceived for the urban outskirts of Rome, particularly Tor Fiscale, is an opportunity to address the same problems at a global scale. RhOME for denCity, indeed, is a project replicable in every context with problems similar to those of Rome, as reckoned in the Smart City theory.
De-LAB will study RhOME for denCity from the Inclusive Business perspective, analyzing its potential of replicability in low-income contexts, according to the BOP model.
The results of the joint study will be published int he booklet Inclusive Business: the Italian potential that De-LAB will release in the months to come.
